FOUNDATION
Reforestation and biodiversity on 24 hectares
The Refugio Verde Azul Foundation is committed to restoring and preserving tropical rainforest in Costa Rica. We started on a 24-hectare finca in Santa Rosa, Piedras Blancas (Osa), where we are revitalizing degraded land. Here, we are working on reforestation, a food forest, a botanical garden, and facilities to accommodate volunteers and researchers.
Our approach goes beyond nature alone. We involve local communities in the implementation, collaborate with organizations like Osa Conservation, and build bridges with knowledge institutions and partners worldwide. This creates a space where nature restoration, education, and collaboration converge.

Transparency and ANBI
Stichting Refugio Verde Azul obtained ANBI status (Public Benefit Institution) as of July 2025. This means that donations are tax-deductible and that we meet strict requirements regarding transparency and responsible governance. In this way, we offer donors the assurance that their contribution is used carefully and purposefully for our objectives.
The Refugio Verde Azul Foundation values transparency. Therefore, we publish our key accountability documents on this page. Through these documents, we provide insight into our activities, our financial accountability, and the way the foundation is governed.

The restoration and conservation of tropical rainforest in Costa Rica, with an emphasis on reforestation, biodiversity, and community development.

Remuneration policy
The Refugio Verde Azul Foundation is a non-profit organization. The board members receive no remuneration for their work. Any expenses incurred may be reimbursed, if applicable. In this way, we ensure that available resources are used as much as possible for the protection and restoration of nature in Costa Rica.
Activity Report
In the activity report, we describe the activities carried out by Stichting Refugio Verde Azul during the year in question. The report provides insight into the steps taken for the protection and restoration of tropical rainforest in Costa Rica, the collaboration with local stakeholders, and the further development of the project.
Financial annual report
In the annual reports, we provide financial accountability for the relevant financial year. These state which income the foundation has received, which expenses have been incurred, and how the available resources have been used for the objectives of Stichting Refugio Verde Azul.
Stichting Refugio Verde Azul was established in the last quarter of 2024. This annual report therefore covers a short reporting period: from establishment up to and including 31 December 2024. The foundation did not yet have ANBI status in 2024. This status was granted in 2025.
