The Refugio Verde Azul Foundation is committed to the restoration and conservation of tropical rainforest in Costa Rica. From our project site in Santa Rosa (Piedras Blancas, Osa), we collaborate with local communities, volunteers, and international partners on reforestation, education, and sustainable community development.
THE BOARD
Amar Sjauw En Wa
Chair
Amar studied Architecture and Building Technology (Delft University of Technology) and has over 15 years of experience as a project leader in sustainable area development, circularity, and digitalization. He connects sustainability themes with innovative digital tools and has worked for municipalities, Rijkswaterstaat (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), and cooperatives, among others. As co-founder and chair of the Refugio Verde Azul Foundation, Amar uses his knowledge and experience to determine the strategic direction, forge partnerships, and promote the foundation's vision.
Astrid Meier
Secretary
Astrid studied Tropical Land and Water Management and Sociology. This brings together both ecological and social expertise: knowledge of sustainable land use and water management, and insights into how communities function and collaborate. This combination makes her contribution to the foundation particularly valuable. As secretary, she also ensures structure, transparency, and substantive reinforcement of our projects.
Jeroen Windhorst
Treasurer
Jeroen studied Nursing and Business Administration and has over 25 years of experience in healthcare. He worked as an ER nurse, a military nurse, and later as a strategic advisor and entrepreneur. Through Circular Healthcare, he focuses on sustainability, circularity, and collaboration in healthcare. As treasurer, he combines financial expertise with social responsibility and uses his experience to manage the foundation's resources efficiently and transparently.

Wilberth Garcia
Supervisor
Wilberth lives in Santa Rosa, Osa, and knows the Refugio Verde Azul grounds like no other. With his local knowledge and practical experience, he oversees the daily management and supports the implementation of our projects. He is a vital link between the foundation and the local community.
